News - January 2026

I am delighted to confirm that a new non-fiction book is in the works. Since it requires plenty of research, I don't expect completion before 2027 at the earliest. Updates to follow.

A new publicity poster for my novels

A four-year project completed!

1st February 2025

My thanks to the National Library of Australia which has placed online the second of my two transcriptions of E T Crutchley's diaries. Both transcriptions (1928-1935 from Australia, and 1935-1940 from London) are now online. They make a fascinating read.

The publication of the two transcriptions follows kind permission granted by the Cambridge University Library (UK) which holds the handwritten originals. I am also grateful to the National Archives and the Postal Museum, both in London, which also allowed countless original documents to be viewed.

The first Tunbridge Wells Local Writers' Fair at the Amelia Scott, 12th May 2023.

Among 20 local authors exhibiting their books at this excellent venue. Focused on two thrillers: A MOST UNFORTUNATE AFFAIR and ILIBA UNRAVELS.

Thanks to Sofia Malmqvist for desiging this poster.

Procession

Ever encountered processionary caterpillars? Walk near pine or oak trees in Greece, Spain, or any other Mediterranean country around February, and you are likely to do so. They are poisonous and scary...and they are now in Britain. Procession imagines old men imitating them in a small American town. A perfect horror story!

Hummingbird

Hummingbird is a surreal story inspired by living under low-flying aircraft on their way to a nearby airport. What if the aircraft affected minds of the people they flew over? What if some of those people developed the urge to follow the planes to their destination? Brace yourself for additional surprises and a calamitous ending!

Bad Days in Broadacre

Bad Days in Broadacre came about after observing quirks of American life while living in northeastern United States. A toxic blend of profiteers, corrupt officials, protesting citizens, visiting gangsters, escaped prisoners, and a hopeless National Guard, cause a quiet northeastern town to descend into anarchy. Who can save it?

The Black Carriage

Visits to museums and archives in France, and travels around Italy and Switzerland, inspired The Black Carriage, my first novel. It is a saga about a Napoleonic soldier and his two-decade pursuit across nine countries, both sides of the Atlantic. For a large part of the time, France is at war. The photos show some areas he visits, and where he sometimes fights, in northern Italy and Switzerland between 1798 and 1813. The story ends shortly after a revealing secret meeting with Napoleon’s three sisters while Napoleon continues to be held on St. Helena.
